Continuous search and sweep operations in the Dar El Chawi area, on the outskirts of Tangier, have resulted in the recovery of the bodies of three children and the driver of the car swept away by the floods, in a tragic accident that occurred as a result of the sudden rise in water levels, while rescue efforts are still ongoing to find the husband and wife, who have been missing since the accident occurred.
The area had witnessed, in the late hours of Saturday night, February 7th, a tragic accident on the road connecting the cities of Tangier and Tetouan, specifically within the territorial jurisdiction of the Jbel Habib commune, following the heavy rainfall the region experienced.
According to field data, strong floods swept away a light vehicle carrying five members of the same family, after the water surprised the vehicle as it attempted to cross a road section affected by the floods, in conditions described as extremely dangerous.
In the first hours following the accident, initial sweep operations led to the discovery of two children from the car's passengers, before subsequent investigations resulted in the recovery of the bodies of a third child and the vehicle's driver, while search operations are still underway to determine the fate of the husband and wife, amidst significant challenges posed by the force of the current, bad weather conditions, and the rugged terrain of the area.
Upon being notified of the incident, the regional authorities moved to the scene, where the governor of the Tetouan province supervised the search and rescue operations, in which elements of the Royal Gendarmerie, Civil Protection, and local authorities participated, with the support of volunteers from the local population.
The combing operations continue along the course of the valley, with the deployment of human and logistical resources, while an atmosphere of sadness and anticipation prevails among the residents of the area, awaiting the outcome of the coming hours.
