The Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region has entered a state of maximum alert, in light of the severe weather conditions affecting the area. This has prompted territorial authorities to tighten monitoring measures and implement proactive interventions, coinciding with the issuance of alert bulletins at orange and red levels.
The services of the regional governorate have begun activating field monitoring mechanisms through the alert unit, following forecasts indicating strong and stormy winds that could reach speeds of 75 to 90 kilometers per hour today, Thursday, particularly in the Tangier-Assilah prefecture. This may be accompanied by disruptions to traffic and navigation.
Continuous rainfall is also expected in the city of Tangier throughout the day, with amounts ranging between 20 and 30 millimeters. The rainfall is expected to be heavier in the neighboring provinces, especially Chefchaouen and Tetouan, where recorded quantities may reach high levels of up to 90 millimeters, increasing the possibility of localized flash floods.
Given this climatic scenario, authorities have conducted an assessment of vulnerable areas within Tangier's urban fabric, identifying several neighborhoods and black spots historically known for water accumulation. A rapid intervention plan has been put in place to deal with any potential emergencies.
This classification includes neighborhoods in the densely populated Al-Awama area, such as Al-Majd, Al-Murabit, and Houmat Souissi, as well as other points belonging to the Beni Makada district, including Khandaq El Ward and Al-Marsa area, in addition to parts of the Souani district. Roadways and roundabouts known for water accumulation issues are under close surveillance.
كما امتدت إجراءات اليقظة إلى أحياء الإدريسية ومحيط قنوات تصريف المياه، إضافة إلى حي ابن كيران وحي الوردة بمقاطعة مغوغة، في وقت دعت فيه السلطات الساكنة إلى الالتزام بتعليمات السلامة والإبلاغ الفوري عن أي وضع غير عادي.
ويأتي هذا الاستنفار في شمال المملكة في سياق وطني حساس، على ضوء ما شهدته مدينة القصر الكبير خلال الأيام الأخيرة من فيضانات غير مسبوقة، فرضت إجلاء كلي لساكنة المدينة، نتيجة الارتفاع الكبير في حقينة سد واد المخازن وتزايد منسوب مياه واد اللوكوس، وهو ما عزز من منسوب الحذر لدى السلطات تحسبا لسيناريوهات أسوأ.
